COMMUNICATING SCIENCE TO THE american PUBLIC + MEDIA TRAINING 

1-on-1 via Zoom (ask for individual and package pricing)

This private 1-on-1 training prepares scientists to be captivating communicators of their research, policy recommendations, and/or professional story for an audience of the United States’ general public. This training includes learning to handle a live TV interview, i.e., media training. Each session is customized for your individual goals and may include any of the following:

  • Crafting your research into concise, memorable 5-8 second phrases (soundbites) that can be used beyond media appearances in:

– Policy pitches to lawmakers, politicians and aides
– Investor pitch decks
– Websites and branding
– Social events, networking, casual conversation

  • Speaking skill and techniques (voice modulation, diction, cadence, accent modification, posture, hand movements, eye contact)
  • Overcoming anxiety and getting through frozen moments
  • Handling antagonistic questions
  • Transitions in conversation
  • On-camera performance (including Zoom)

Each session typically culminates with the practice of live 2-min TV news interviews, incorporating your new 5-8 second soundbites and learned techniques. Experiential learning exercises like this are woven through the training, and it’s where scientists often find their greatest moments of growth and confidence, visualizing what’s possible with their communication.
